Please join Natural Areas Volunteers in storm cleanup of the woodlands of Wolfe’s Pond Park. Your help is needed to restore the forest and clear out the storm debris.  Registration is needed. Please follow this link topledge a day of service.

It’s On! Tree Planting at Highbridge Sunday December 9th

After a month-long moratorium on volunteer activity in the park following Hurricane Sandy, The New York Restoration Project and NYCMTB are pleased to announce that this weekend we will begin final phase of our large-scale reforestation project by planting the remaining native trees and shrubs in Highbridge Park. The reforestation will compliment and reinforce the new trails and jumps that have been developed in the area. Huge volunteer day at Highbridge!!!

What do you get when a group of 50+ Business School Students from Pace, Baruch, and NYU decide to give back to NYC Parks?  Over 150 volunteer hours in a single morning on the trails in Highbridge Park.  Students cleared debris, raked trails, and even worked on a  reroute of a social trail.  Additional details and photos can be found on the trail maintenance forum.  Please make some time to give back to your local trails.  We’ll teach you sustainable trail building and maintenance techniques and you’ll meet fellow volunteers …

Clean up at Long Pond Park this Saturday 5/7 8am

Please join us this Saturday morning and we support Matt Lebows effort to clean up Long Pond Park on Staten Island.  Long Pond Park is right next to the trails in Wolfes Pond and is worth seeing if you haven’t been there before.  I’ll be taking the 7:30 Ferry and 8:01 S.I. Simply amazing…

What do you get when you combine the IMBA Trail Care Crew with 20 volunteers?  120 hours of education and trail maintenance!  Huge thanks to Steve and Morgan for sharing the IMBA knowledge in the morning and for leading the volunteers on several projects in the afternoon.  Additional thanks to the volunteers who showed up throughout the weekend, our hosts Antonio & Scott, and EMS for covering the meals.   We worked on smoothing out several sections of Rough Ryder and removed several bags of debris from the trails.  We’ve …

IMBA Trail Care Crew Visiting Manhattan April 28th – May 1st

We are pleased to announce that NYCMTB has been awarded a grant to host the IMBA Trail Care Crew from April 28th to May 1st. The IMBA Trail Care Crew travels the country teaching sustainable trail building applicable to hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. Big Turnout at Cunningham

You gotta hand it to our local mountain bike community. Over 45 volunteers turned up this past Saturday at Cunningham Park in Queens to help repair the extensive damage to the Jetline jump line and Thrilla trail. Hats off to Mike Vitti, Jimmy Martinez and the whole crew, who moved countless wheelbarrows of dirt and rocks, and rollered, tamped and reshaped the entire both lines after an unknown group of vandals systematically dismantled them sometime late last Sunday.

Vandals Strike at Cunningham Park

This past Sunday evening, a motivated crew of vandals came through the Cunningham trails and wrought total distruction upon the west side Jetline jump line and east side Thrilla skills section. There are work parties set up for Thursday 12/2 and Saturday 12/4 from 1 pm until dark. Please come lend a hand if you can, and help spread the word.

Highbridge Dirt Jump Park Progress

The Highbridge trails got spanked right on Sunday, with eleven people volunteering an unprecedented 40 hours of labor. All of the back trails were raked, and vigorous poison Ivy cut back, and the DJ’s got a face-lift with a spankin’ new roll-in and a base for the first jump in the new beginner line!
