Ten volunteers from local MTB groups gathered in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to pitch in on the ground breaking effort for the borough’s first bike park. Led by course builder and designer Jim Dellavalle of Pennsylvania, group leaders met to develop an action plan to manage the construction of the park, which is slated to open on Memorial day weekend, May 27th. We are pleased to announce that NYCMTB has been awarded a grant to host the IMBA Trail Care Crew from April 28th to May 1st. The IMBA Trail Care Crew travels the country teaching sustainable trail building applicable to hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The Manhattan Times recently reported on a rash of arson in upper Manhattan parks, including two fires set at Highbridge Park. Luckily, a mountain biker happened to be riding the trails, smelled the burning, and reported one of the Highbridge fires to NYPD. Yet another example of mountain biking as a positive force in NYC Parks!
