2016 Wilmington Whiteface 100K set for June 5

WILMINGTON, N.Y. — The 6th Annual Wilmington Whiteface 100K MTB Race takes place on June 5th in the heart of the Adirondacks. From start to finish, the WW100’s course is as varied as the cyclists competing from the eastern United States and Canada. The race both begins and ends at Whiteface Mountain, but in between, the 69-mile long race will take competitors up and down and twisting through rugged roads, backcountry trails and climbs that measure more than 750 meters each. All of this ends with a pair of 350-foot climbs at Whiteface ahead of the finish line.

Also, cyclists who are currently entered can also refer a friend and they will both be entered to win a Carbon Lauf Fork. The 100k race is a qualifier for the iconic Leadville Trail 100 (LT100) mountain bike race in August.
Cyclists who may not be ready for the full WW100 can also compete in the 50K event, and the TEAM class which will consist of two-member teams each riding the 50K course. Registration is now available for the Wilmington Whiteface 100K. There are entry categories for solo riders, two-person relay teams, and tandem bikes.

“Wilmington and Whiteface Mountain comprise a mecca for outdoor recreation, from skiing and riding to world class fly fishing and cycling,” said Randy Preston, supervisor of the town of Wilmington. “Together, the Bike Fest events serve to highlight the biking capital of the Adirondacks.”

The Wilmington Whiteface 100K is also part of the annual Wilmington Whiteface Bike Fest that includes both serious competition and family fun throughout the weekend on June 3-5.

The weekend begins on Friday, when spectators will enjoy incredible stunts, jumps and tricks at the Wilmington Bike Park as Krushers Stunt Team, from Montreal, Quebec, return for the free jump jam and trials exhibition. Other events Friday evening include Sam Perkins and Carsinn Wilson performing bike acrobatics. The jump jam will be followed by the popular annual welcome party featuring music, raffles, prizes and the competitive Best Calves contest.

Saturday, June 4, features the 15th Annual Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race. This USATF certified course travels 11 miles with an 8 percent grade up New York’s 5th highest mountain. The race begins with an 8 a.m. start at Whiteface Mountain Ski Center and ends at the very top of the Whiteface Veterans’ Memorial Highway. The special “Whiteface Challenge” category is offered for cyclists entering both the Uphill Bike Race and the following day’s Wilmington Whiteface 100K. The overall combined winner from both races will receive $500 cash.

Saturday also includes a vendor expo, music, food, children’s activities and demo bikes, as well as free group rides and “Poor Man’s downhill.” All are welcome as the day rounds up with a Bike Fest Beach Party with live music and food.
