Mountain bike racing is a healthy way to push your fitness and your riding skills to a new level. Racing is a critical part of NYCMTB’s mission as it provides a structured and measurable means of progression for mountain bike riders. NYCMTB’s goal is to make mountain bike racing accessible and affordable for both youth and adults here in the big apple, and we offer a number of different races for riders of various abilities.

The Highbridge Hustle and Flow race is where lycra and body armor meet!
Imagine a team-relay race that pairs the baddest XC/’Cross/Road climbers with the quickest young pump trackers and the sickest DH pinners and Super-D trail bombers. Set them out, time-trial-style against the clock in an all-out sprint race through the woods of Upper Manhattan. The race starts with an 18-and-under team member hauling around the pump track, then the DH’er blasts back down a berm- and drop-infested freeride trail, an XC/’Cross/Road rider sprints up an absurdly steep paved path (15-18% grade at its steepest) at full bore, followed by the Super-D’er ripping back down a technical XC trail that makes grown men cry. At the bottom, they tag off to the XC’er, who climbs through snaking singletrack in severe oxygen debt back to the finish line. Tough? Yes. Fast? You bet. Fun? Of course. It’s the second-annual Highbridge Hustle & Flow!
30 teams of 5 riders will test their mettle on the Highbridge Park trails for their chance to sit in the hot seat and claim victory in a race unlike any in the Northeast. For those of extraordinary skill and fitness who think they can hack it all, we have 40 solo entry spots available. Great prizes from sponsors await, but this race isn’t about medals or trinkets, it’s about guts, glory… and survival. This is a true all-mountain race- tough climbs, tougher descents. A one-minute DH leg that’s so tough XC’ers will be walking, and climbs that’ll push you immediately into the red zone.
Last year’s solo podium was topped by former World Cup DH champ Juergen Beneke. Beneke will be back this year to defend his title- can you beat him? Last year’s team competition was won by the Ghostship Clothing team (see their recap here: http://www.ghostshipclothing.com/2008/04/hustle-and-flow-race-report.html ), who have promised to return and defend their title!

11:45pm. Racer meeting.
Awards for the top 3 teams and top 5 individuals will be presented at 1:30, and we’ll follow that with an amateur jump jam at the Highbridge jumps. We’re working on a fundraising party and movie premiere for later that night- more details to come.
All teams are welcome to bring their own under-18 youth member for the pump track leg of the race, but we can arrange for youth members for teams who cannot bring their own.
The All-City Classic at Highbridge is the premiere Cross-Country mountain bike race in NYC. With a challenging course that winds through the Highbridge trails and incorporates unique urban obstacles, there is not another XC race in the country like it. Super-technical trails, thigh-crushing steep climbs, and only a block from the bodegas of Inwood and Washington Heights.
NYC Velo Summer Sprint Series
The summer sprint series is our Thursday evening training race series. Races start at 6:45 on Thursday evenings twice a month, and run roughly 25-45 minutes. This year, NYC Velo (2nd Ave between 3rd and 4th Streets) has stepped up to sponsor the series so that we can inscribe it as an official USA Cycling training race series, and, just like last year, it is FREE to race for all participants. There is no entry fee, and there are no prizes, but we do tabulate results and will award prizes to the series winners. To keep it simple, there are only 4 race classes- Cat 3 men and women and Open (Pro, Cat 1, Cat 2) men and women. Cat 3 does one lap of the course, Open does two laps. We’re done before sunset so no lights are necessary. All participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian with them to sign the race entry waiver.
Other regional races
If you’re interested in racing outside of the city, we recommend the following race series:
