I was going to do the River road TT but decided I only needed to have one day of riding in the rain...I can not bear to do any more bike maintenance.

So yesterday morning I made a split decision and decided to get in the car and drive up to Tymor. Sorry for not inviting anyone but I had to get rolling.

I don't know if I did the race course but I tried to follow a print out of the gps track posted here, and think I managed to follow it. The beginning is pretty flat, tight, twisty and extremely rooty. If it was dry you could probably haul ass here, but the wet roots and greasy trail in combination with my Bontrager XDX was a disaster. Then some double track, a couple of burst climbs and more roots ends the first three miles. Shoot over the grassy area, cross the road and then it's hike a bike time.

On this side you have three long steady climbs, broken up by fast sketchy down hills and even sketchier off camber single track. Should be very interesting in the rain! I got myself a pair of specialized Captain Control tires today. Hopefully that will make me stay upright but if somebody think they completely suck - this would be a good time to speak up.

The forecast is changing for the better (worse for JB), as of now it looks like the rain will taper off earlier in the morning Cool

Whoa...4 pages about Tymor and the race hasn't even happened yet. Should be a big NYC turnout.

Sounds like a wise decision there to change the tyres Viking, it'll probably still be pretty muddy out there.
See you bright and early, be sure to bring the crayons Wink

I was about to get disappointed by the lack of rain thus far today, then I checked out the northeast radar on weather.com and saw that huge line of intense storms about three hours away. Twisted Evil

The course this year sounds like the course the first year I raced it (2005) although in a slightly different order. Can't wait. Twisted Evil

I ride on a pair of these and have been very happy with them, however I've never riden on any other tires to compare. I used them at Wawa and they held up.

It looks like the only rain is going to be overnight. Hopefully the place drains well.

Agreed...there is just something so wrong with JB wanting it to be a downpour. It is just plain wrong... It is kind of like doing ultra races (100 miles plus) rigid and on a single speed. I just will never understand it.

JB, see you at 7. I am off to bed.

Look at that line of storms out in NJ about to roll on through. BRING IT ON!

Georges and John- if it's raining, I'll pick you all up at your places so you don't have to ride and wait in it.

Laughing Someone did tell you guys that gears were allowed right? Wink

I got passed by one guy on a rigid SS - with flat pedals! Shocked That's got to be tough. Why not go all the way and ride fixed gear. Or one handed. Or with no seat. Laughing

Any glory in the results?

I was preregistered for Cat2 35-39 but I fractured my clavicle on a shake down ride on Saturday. luckily I found out my front tire had a small tear and wasn't race worthy, whew! Spent the night in the ER looking out at the rain and thinking how awesome the race would be in the morning...

PS- at least I wasn't sandbagin' the Tymor again this year...

Sorry to hear that Sascha.

How did everyone else make out?

I had a good time of it, on a course I really enjoy.
Sloppy conditions made some sections pretty tough going but the lines bedded in a little with the traffic.
The bike felt really good and so did I, ending up in 1st place.
Thanks to Viking for the lift up there and back.

Back home from the Tymor race, good times! Georges and Jamie, it was nice to meet you guys - it's great to see so many NYC racers out there. This was my first time racing this course and I was very impressed. A true mountain bike race with 90% singletrack, much of it off-camber and littered with roots. Sick "little" climb in there too Razz I Managed to pick up 2nd place in the 35-39 Cat 2 race, and had a blast overall. Hope to see you all at the next races or out in Highbridge. Peace...

-Guillaume.

Super muddy and nasty on the course, combined with the big hill meant a lot of walking on the SS. I had a great race with Georges and David from Black Bear, I finished 10th out of 17 Cat 2 SS, in 2hr10min so pretty pleased with that Smile

Nice work G. Very fast time in our heavily-stacked 35-39 class.

Here are the results I got photos of:

Cat 2 Men 20-29 (subtract 4 minutes)(19 racers)

Dan Durler (Sids) - 1:59:49 - 8th
Austin Peterman (National Anthems) - 2:03:18 - 10th
Chris Skolnick (National Anthems) - 2:19:05 - 15th
Alex Buell (NYCMTB-Peak Bikes) - 2:33:19 - 17th

Cat 2 Men 30-34 (subtract 0 minutes)(at least 19 racers- I didn't photo the second sheet)

Luis Rivera (NYCMTB-Peak Bikes) - 2:10:11 - 8th

Cat 2 Men 35-39 (subtract 1 minute)(32 racers)

Guillaume Loize - 1:45:49 - 2nd
Jamie Bogner (NYCMTB-Peak Bikes) - 2:01:15 - 10th
Matt Hill (NYCMTB-Peak Bikes) - 2:07:35 - 13th
Noah Gellner (Sids) - 2:12:42 - 18th

Cat 2 Men 40-44 (subtract 2 minutes)(21 racers)

Jason Grossi (NYC Freeride) - 1:58:55 - 4th
Pablo Toribio (NYCMTB-Peak Bikes) - 2:02:21 - 6th

Cat 2 Men Singlespeed (subtract 5 minutes)

Daniel Ingerdal (NYCMTB-Peak Bikes) - 2:04:13 - 5th
John Griffiths (NYCMTB-Peak Bikes) - 2:16:00 - 10th
Georges Rouan (NYCMTB-Peak Bikes) - 2:18:14 - 12th

So from the NYCMTB-Peak Bikes team, fastest cat 2 was Daniel with an adjusted 1:59:13. Second was me with an adjusted 2:00:15. Third was Pablo at an adjusted 2:00:21.

Super fun race today. The weather turned out just how I wanted it- minimized the time that the pure climbers could take out of me, although truthfully I kinda like the climbs... Twisted Evil
